Process

Our unique consulting process begins with the client partnership that drives the design of the “Connections Booklet”™. Excelerated Learning Systems has built an expertise integrating financial measures, strategic initiatives and an organization’s business processes into the delivery of the Apples and Oranges™ business simulation. By using the real numbers of your organization and showing participants how initiatives translate into everyday work, employees gain a stronger understanding of their role in achieving results.

Design of the “Connections Booklet”™ is structured around the Cash Stool™ .

Components include but are not limited to:

Assessment. 10-15 questions are designed to address the topics of information specific to your organization that will be “discovered” in the seminar. Teams complete this assessment together to begin to use the skills of team processing of information and become comfortable with the financial information that will be part of the learning.

Why We Need to Know. These pages establish “what’s in it for me” to gain commitment to the seminar and application of the knowledge into job performance.

Key Financial Measures. Clearly defined connections between key financial measures and the daily tasks of participants are outlined. These measures are referred to throughout the seminar to continually link your reality to the simulation. People begin to understand the importance of these measures and how their actions influence them.

Financial Statement. The profit and loss statements and operational reports for your business unit are introduced and explained with a supplementary glossary of terms. Employees have a better opportunity to suggest improvement ideas once they have an understanding of where the money is currently allocated.

Strategic Initiatives. Initiatives related to your organization’s performance are outlined and linked to the simulation. Specific examples gathered through the fact finding sessions are incorporated to link the learning to the organization. For example, if your performance management system links pay to performance, we clearly outline the leverage points within your business that would positively impact this incentive pay.

Business Processes. Specific examples are offered outlining your business processes and their relationship to driving operating profit.

The Big Picture. We incorporate the income statement and balance sheet of your parent company (when applicable) to show participants how your business unit rolls up into the success of the organization.

The design incorporates reading exercises, table activities and group activity and discussion integrated into the delivery of the simulation.

Additional Design Options

ELS will partner with an internal design team to create a flexible template that can be edited based on business unit needs. Services include a Coaching Guide and Custom Script to support implementation.

Continuation of Consulting Process

Implementations looking for maximum return on investment utilize the full spectrum of our consulting services. Once the “Connections Booklet”TM has completed its editing the following phases contribute to maximum return.

Presentation of findings in Executive Briefing

The focus of the interview process and access to key subject matter experts often leads to discoveries that warrant sharing with the executive team. This presentation also gains sponsorship and clarity for implementation objectives.

Insights from Executive Briefing defines implementation plan

Based on feedback from the session, data is incorporated or highlighted from original design and implementation plan.

Leadership Engagement Workshop

Managers of participants attend a two hour briefing of key concepts that will be delivered in the learning. Expectations are set for them to meet with participants prior to the learning to define shared learning objectives. Participants meet with managers after the session to define action plan as a result of the learning.

Action Journal

Key learning points are integrated into an Action Journal which act as catalyst to decide what specific action would be beneficial to the business. Issues such as resources and support are defined during a meeting with the manager. Results are tracked across the organization.

Coaching

Individual coaching at the manager and executive level is available as well as group teleclass sessions to assist with the definition of the action plans.

Measurement

Implementation planning services set measures at the beginning of the project and can be monitored and reported out to the executive team or designated representation.

Reinforcement

Additional learning can be designed as “Brown Bag” sessions, teleclass or self-study with assessment.

Reported Outcomes

Implementation planning services determine what will be tracked and how the data will be communicated.
